Gaspard Louane
Switzerland
Gaspard Louane (b. 1988) is currently living in Bern and working in both Fribourg and Zurich. In his teenage years he found expression through rap in the hip-hop movement. He is one of the founding members of the swiss hip-hop collective LES UNS. Louane studied visual communication and multimedia design at Eikon in Fribourg. 2010 to 2015 were important years for Louane’s own visual language, which shaped his former artistic identity and pseudonym „Jack Little“ who developed into Gaspard Louane. He developed a unique artistic signature, consisting of intricate and interlaced letters on one side and cartoon-like animal illustrations on the other.
Since 2016, Louane’s artistic outcome has been presented in several exhibitons throughout Europe, New York, Colmar, Fribourg and Zurich. In 2018 he got an opportunity to create his biggest mural of more than 30 meters height, entitled Bern City Streets Love, which was part of the exhibition Sandwich Between Walls at the Attisholz Kultur area in Solothurn (Switzerland). Meanwhile Louane was extremely productive in writing books, among them, COMMUNICATIONS 1 – ouvrage de Louane (2018), TRANSATLANTIQUE – Louane retraversé (2019), Whats Up Internet? (2019), Art Histories – 1. The Waiting Room (2020). In the latter, Louane offers the reader an attempt to an alternative and subjective perspective to “art historiography”.
